Staff Testimonies

Pastor Jim Rider

My life began in Portland, Oregon in 1943 (a long, long time ago). It has been riveted with many different influences such as the death of my sister, stuttering, dyslexia, football, honor society, college, more football, and the Peace Corps. I was headed for a business career when I met my wife to be and, shortly thereafter, found the Lord. My life changed drastically at this time and I began to ask God what He wanted me to do for Him. "Prepare!" For what? "Just prepare and I will show you!" At the time of the writing of this brief testimony, it has been 34 plus years of preparing and following God. He gave me Lynda (my wife), a wonderful marriage with four adopted children, ministries from California, Portland, Seattle, Olalla, Chicago, and back to Olalla. If the Lord took me home today I would have to say that my life has been nothing short of marvelous. There is nothing better than serving and following God, let alone the excitement of preparing for what He continues to challenge man to do for Him.

Mel McCarthy

It seems that I was going to church as far back as I can remember. But that does not mean that I was always a Christian. I can remember many times I was asked if I wanted to be baptized, I always said, "No.", after all you don't need to be baptized to be saved, I thought. Many time I was asked, and many times I said, "No." I remember one time while I was watching a parade someone tried to give me a tract and I thought, why take it, I won't read it and I will only throw it away. All these times, GOD was waiting patiently and I did not know it. One day not too long ago, while I was working in a main ballast tank alone, I got to thinking about my life up to that point and I realized that as a Christian I did not measure up. In fact, I was not worthy to be called a Christian.... As I was thinking a voice came to me and said, "I died for you anyway." It was like a light was turned on for the first time. For the first time I understood what it was all about. For the first time I knew what Jesus did for me and how much he loved me.
